Plot Summary Frances and Lizzie Shore are two sisters who could not be more different. While the introvert Frances is a successful curator at a museum in the swanky east coast city Boston, Lizzie is a perfectionist, living on the picturesque coast in Massachusetts, managing her family home, two lively children and a small art gallery. Frances is about to crown her late husband lifework with a major exhibition on native Indian art, when her boss imposes cooperation with a new colleague upon her. The rather unconventional Adam does not only bring chaos into her professional life, he also causes turbulences in her private life and is not stopping short of involving Frances' family as well. Old conflicts between Frances and her sister break into the open: competitiveness, jealousy, denied aspirations and long suppressed needs are threatening to destroy the family. The family crisis does not even spare their parents Barbara and William who wanted nothing more but enjoy their well-deserved retirement. Before Frances can admit to herself that she has fallen in love with Adam and both would be able to start into a new life together, she will have to reconcile with her sister. Considering the size of the two sisters' egos and both their stubbornness, this task proves to be quite a tricky one. |
